Maxine Duncan

Our Heavenly Father saw fit to call Maxine Duncan from labor to reward on Mother’s Day - Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas with her family at her side. Her passing reminds us that life is uncertain, but death is sure. Maxine was born April 14, 1952, in the Smithton Community of Gurdon, Arkansas. She was the daughter of McHenry and Willie Mae Barton Brewer. During her tender years she joined The Church of God. She was a graduate of Bell High School where she excelled as a student and grew up to be an intelligent and attractive young lady. She later became a member of Eastern Star Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a choir member, deaconess, and financial secretary. On April 21, 1979, she married the handsome Otis Duncan and the Lord added to this union two children, Latashia and Bryan. Maxine was an employee of the Arkadelphia Human Development Center for over 30 years before she retired. She possessed an infectious smile that would chase the chill from any room. She lived life to the fullest, and there was never a dull moment when she was around. She was preceded in death by her father, McHenry Brewer and two brothers, Herman Brewer and George Henry Brewer. Maxine leaves to her fondest memory in the hearts of her husband, Otis Duncan; two children, Latashia Duncan of Little Rock, AR, and Bryan Duncan of Gurdon, AR; her mother, Willie Mae Brewer of Gurdon, AR; two sisters, Vera (Jerry) Malone of Indianapolis, IN, Mary Brewer of Little Rock, AR; and one brother, Sylvester “Joe” (Loretta) Brewer of Prescott, AR. Maxine also leaves her mother-in-law Mildred Anderson; sister-in-laws, Mattie (Augustus) Gentry, Stella (Johnny) Lacy; brother-in-laws, Tony Anderson, Tip (Bernita) Anderson, Carl Anderson and Greg (Talitha) Anderson; the children she helped raise, Justin Nelson, Jadyn Nelson, Camelia Ashford and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives , the Eastern Star Baptist Church family and numerous friends. Mrs. Duncan will lie in repose at the funeral home on Friday, May 13th from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. The family with receive friends and share with them the Images of Life DVD from 6-7 p.m. The last farewell and tributes to her life will be shared on Saturday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Eastern Star Baptist Church in the Smithton Community. Rev. Marshall Allen, the pastor will deliver the message. The committal service and final resting place will be in Rose Hedge Cemetery. Bearers of the casket will be Darryl Malone. Michael Malone, Keith Malone, Tip Anderson, Carl Anderson and Tony Anderson.
