David Brim, Sr.

April 25, 1945 — July 5, 2012

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it” Ecclesiastes 12:7 On April 2, 1945, Mack Henry and Arilla Gray Brim welcomed to their family a handsome baby boy. They named him David. David was raised in the Arkadelphia. He was nurtured in a Christian environment; David gave his life to Christ at a young age. He received his education Peake High School where he graduated in 1965. He was an avid football player having played left half-back for the buffaloes. Soon after graduation on July 24, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart Sandra Mitchell. He served his country by joining the United States Army on August 30, 1965 in Fort Hood, Texas. While in the Army he received several honors, and medals including: the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 29, 1971. David and Sandra were blessed with three healthy children Cynthia, Stephanie and David. He worked for several years as a machine operator for Reynolds Metal Company where he retired. He not only served his country, but he served his church and community. He was a very active member of Mt. Friendship Baptist Church in Curtis, Arkansas where he served as a trustee, on the finance committee and Sunday school teacher. David was known to always extended and helping hand and serve where he was needed. On Thursday, July 5, 2012, in his 67th season, with his family and friends gathered, David peacefully surrendered his soul to Christ and now rests in the arms of Jesus. He was welcomed home by his parents, three brothers Henry Brim, Billy Brim, Willie Brim and three of his sisters Mae Francis Harrell, Margaret Wiley and Nettie Mae Brown. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sandra; his children Cindy (Jermaine) Lawson of Gurdon, Stephanie Brim of Camden and David (Melva) Brim, Jr. of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren and three sisters, Elizabeth Williams of Arkadelphia, Dorothy Tucker of Hot Springs and Lucille Smith of Mt. Pine; a host of nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, several friends and the Mt. Friendship Baptist Church family. Mr. Brim will lie in repose at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 11th from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. A home going Celebration is planned for Thursday, July 12th at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of Mt. Friendship Baptist Church where Rev. Kyle L. Jones is the pastor and celebrant. Bearers of the casket will be Bill Williams, Maurice Davis, Gar McClelland, Douglas Thomas, Allan Brim and David Buckley. Honorable to mention are Ferman McClure, Herman Leeper, Juan Horton, Phenoid McClure, Paul Bailey, Jr., Charles McClure and Donald Horton. The committal service and final resting place will be in Curtis Cemetery.
