Larry Lane Williams

February 13, 1956 — July 31, 2012

Just doing all each day will hold and living it with zest. Loving, laughing, and dreaming too, but always just my best. My best I’ll give, my best I’ll share without a question why; because I know I cannot stay, for I’m just passing by. On February 13, 1956, Robert and Leola Johnson Williams welcomed to their family a handsome baby boy. They named him Larry Lane. Larry was raised in Clark County, Arkansas. Nurtured in a Christian environment, Larry gave his life to Christ at a young age. He was a 1975 graduate of Arkadelphia Sr. High School and later attended Henderson State University. He was a member of Piney Grove AME Church and an employee of Entergy. In June of 1977, believing God’s Word, “….and the two shall become one flesh….” he married the beautiful Ruby Jones. The Lord blessed this union with the birth of a son they named Robert. Together they laid a solid foundation for family life based on love, commitment, and Christian values. Some of his favorite pastimes included restoring cars, painting cars, and welding. Larry was most keenly known for his barbeque, specializing in barbeque goat. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Larry played the pitcher position for the Mill Creek Braves. He loved music and his favorite tunes were the melodies of Al Green. He was a man of few words and of many virtues. He was a good man and a hard worker. Larry traveled his road of life and dealt with the stormy and sunny days along the way to the best of his ability with integrity and character. Larry was a patient man. He always maintained a humble spirit and mild disposition throughout his life. We will remember his smiles, his love, and infectious laugh. Larry was released from the bondage of this life to enjoy his reward from the heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Awaiting his arrival and to welcome him home are his parents, and his nieces Tawanna Neal and Tanisha Neal. Because love is far greater than death, Larry departs this earth in body only. Those left to celebrate his life and remember his legacy are his loving wife, Ruby; his only son Robert and his grandson Tyler; two sisters, Charlotte (Bobby) Neal of Arkadelphia and Ida Brown of Texarkana, TX; one brother, William (Glenda) Owens of Arkadelphia; two uncles, Superintendent Ray Williams of Odessa, TX; Charles Jones of Arkadelphia; three aunts, Ruby McClellan of Malvern, AR, Lou Ethel Nauden of Little Rock, AR, and Bobbie (Walter) Hill of University City, WA; his father and mother-in-law, Herman and Mary Jones of Arkadelphia; three sisters-in-law, Teresa Jones of Arkadelphia, Sandra Johnson of Arkadelphia and Harriet Stevens of Los Angeles, CA; three brothers-in-law, Clifford Jones of Arkadelphia, Herman Jones, Jr,, of Arkadelphia and Timothy Jones of Arkadelphia. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, friends and the Piney Grove AME Church family. Mr. Williams will lie in state on Friday, August 3rd from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. A home going celebration is planned for Saturday, August 4th at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Piney Grove AME Church where Rev. C. O. Dansby is the pastor and will officiate. Superintendent Leroy Williams will serve as the celebrant. The committal service and final resting place will be in Piney Grove Cemetery. Bearers of the casket will be Herman Jones, Jr., Timothy Jones, Reginald Dickerson, Kenneth Jones, Johnny Jones and Chris Hunter. Honorary bearers of the casket will be Roosevelt Davis, Odray Anderson, Jr., Elmore Wiley, Jr., Rev. Greg Marshall, Orlander Macon, and Donnie Yarber. View video tribute at the top of the screen.
