Mary Josephine Thomas Harris

December 22, 1942 — October 30, 2007

God called her home. He put His loving arms around her and whispered, “Come with Me.” With tearful eyes we watched her suffer and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best! Mary Josephine Thomas was born December 22, 1942, to Eugene & Daisy Clark Thomas in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Sis. Harris united with the Piney Grove AME Church at an early age. She was a 1962 graduate of Peake High School. “Jo” whom she was affectionately called was a pleasant and warm lady who loved casual visits with friends and family. She was a former employee of the Home Health Care Profession. “Jo” was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Aron Harris and this union was blessed with a son Carl. In later years her life was blessed with two grandsons Patrick and Chris. They were a great source of joy and pride. In her 64th season on October 30, 2007, in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her family she surrendered her soul to Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Linda Maude Godfrey and one brother Henry Thomas. She leaves to cherish her precious, loving memories: her husband, Aron Harris of Arkadelphia, AR; one son Carl & his wife Janet Harris of Conway, AR; three sisters Mildred & her husband Martin Brooks of Indiapolis, ID; Sedonia & her husband Leonard Franklin Harris of Arkadelphia, AR; and Lady Williams of Little Rock, AR; two brothers, Eugene Thomas of Arkadelphia, AR; and Rev. Charlie & his wife Mary Thomas of Arkadelphia, AR; two grandsons Patrick Harris & Chris Harris of Conway, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and several friends. Jo will lie in state at Williams Funeral Home on Saturday, November 3, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The family will greet and receive friends on Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 7: p.m. at the funeral home. Final tributes will be shared on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Piney Grove AME Church, Rev. Richard Sutton, pastor and eulogist. The Committal Service & Final Resting Place will be in Piney Grove Cemetery, Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Bearers of the casket will be Stewards of Piney Grove AME Church, Deacons of New Bethel Baptist Church, Bernard Washington, Leonard Harris, and Rossevelt Davis. Honorary bearers of the casket will be Roosevelt Thomas, Joe Brownlee, Booker T., John Harris and Sam Harris.
