Emma Lee Smith

December 12, 1929 — December 2, 2012

Emma Lee Smith was the third child born to A.G. “Jack” and Ethel Cook Staggers. She was born into time on December 12, 1929 in McNab, Arkansas. In July 1948, she united in marriage with Abraham “Abe” Smith and to this union 11 children were born. Abe and Emma were proud parents and later moved to Glenwood, Arkansas. They made several sacrifices to ensure that their children always had what they needed. Family gatherings and being with her friends were always a source of joy. Throughout her life she was a devoted and committed wife, mother, loving grandmother, faithful, trusted friend and confidante. On June 27, 1992 she joined the Jehovah’s Witnesses and remained a witness until her death. Emma possessed a beautiful personality and never met a stranger. She worked as a foster grandparent at Happyland Childcare Center in Arkadelphia. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four children James Staggers, Janice Smith, Charles Smith, Darryl Smith and a step-son Tommy Smith. Her survivors include two daughters, Deanice Delamar of Fort Worth, TX and Yvonne Hunter of Arkadelphia, AR; five sons, Abraham, Jr. (Lesha) Smith of Atlanta, GA, Alvin Smith of Arkadelphia, AR, Gary Smith of Fort Worth, TX, Joe (Patricia) Smith of Arkadelphia, AR, and Kenneth (Toni) Smith of Hot Springs, AR; twenty-six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Her life of 82 years on earth ended on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Our mother had a heart of gold and she left a lasting impression with anyone who knew her. A part of her will live in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr., is the pastor. Rev. Johnny Harris will render words of comfort. The committal service and final resting place will be at Church Hill Cemetery in McNab, Arkansas. Submitted by the Smith Family.
