For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:18 Shirley Knox was born into this world on October 21, 1942, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Fourier “Bubba“ and Annie Arilla Turner Knox. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age. She was a life member of Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Shirley grew up in Arkadelphia and attended Peake High School. Shirley was a simple woman who enjoyed the simple things that life offered. She possessed a charismatic spirit and a cunning, yet pleasant smile. She loved to joke around and was a surrogate mother to many and never met a stranger. Throughout her life she worked several jobs and lastly Henderson State University where she retired. Shirley lovingly know as “MawMaw” always knew how to make the best out of any dull and bad situation. She was a straight-forward woman and one never had to wonder what was on her mind. She treated everybody the same and was known for “telling it, like it is.” To know her was to love her. Her sense of humor and laugh will be sorely missed. Her goal of life: simple, but not empty. She was preceded in death by his parents, Fourier “Bubba” Knox who passed on December 28, 2010 and Annie Arilla Knox who passed on April 6, 1995, and two brothers, Donald L. Knox and James C. Knox and her brother-in-law, Lee Miller. On Sunday, February 9, 2014 after a full life of 71 years Shirley went home to be with the Lord. Those left to cherish her memory are her children that she loved and cherished: Darrell (Tachia ) Knox of Los Angeles, CA, Flora Jackson of Little Rock, Sandra (Eli) McGhee and Phyllis (Eldridge) Jones of Arkadelphia; seven grandchildren, Natieyia Jones, Te’ron Jones, Darnelle (Talisha) Phifer, De’Antoni (Matthew) Wiggins, Unique Knox, Summer Jackson and Shaquaya Jones; nine great-grandchildren, Symone Jones, Kyler Phifer, Jade Bryant, Saniya Jones, Harmonee Knox, Gaven Jones, Donavan Phifer, Peyton Wiggins and Jaylen Knox; one sister, Flora Knox Miller of Dallas, TX and one brother Edward R. Knox of Arkadelphia. She also leaves special cousins, Carolyn Harris and Annie Perry; special friends, Gloria Hart, Betty Buckley, Clyde Middleton and Terry Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins and friends.
