Beverly Jo Hubbard Glenn

December 15, 1956 — October 19, 2014

Beverly Jo Hubbard Glenn was born on December 15, 1956 in Gurdon, Arkansas to Horace Hubbard and Flozell Thomas. When Beverly nine years old her mother married George “Pap” Hawthorne. Beverly was the big sister of the “Hawthorne Clan.” “Pap” raised Beverly and loved her as his own. Early on they knew that Beverly would grow up to be that special person who would leave indelible impressions in the lives of those she would encounter. Beverly and her siblings grew up in a home full of love, laughter. She accepted Christ as a little girl with First Memorial COGIC. She later united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church, then Kingdom Authority Christian Ministries where she coordinated the culinary ministry and was a member of the choir where she loved to lead “Break Every Chain”. She later united with Mt. Canaan Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and a member of the culinary committee. She had a beautiful voice and would minister with her trademark song “Jehovah Jireh“. Beverly was serious about her relationship with Christ and always strived to live a Christian life. “Beverly Jo” or “Bev” as she was lovingly called blossomed into a smart and intelligent young lady. She was a 1974 graduate of Gurdon High School. Her friendship crossed the lines of race and gender. She was a trusted friend who made friends with everyone. A few years after high school she caught the eye of Freddie H. Glenn, a former Marine and after a period of “like and love” they married. On April 12, 1979 the two became one and that was the beginning of a marriage that would last for 28 years. The Lord blessed their union with the birth of four healthy children. Freddie passed on December 27, 2007 with Beverly again by his side. Beverly worked for the Gurdon School District for over 30 years. She was loved and respected by many. Her quiet, yet pleasant demeanor made her approachable; she always listened and gave sound advice. The faculty, staff and students were drawn to her “motherly nature”. Beverly Jo was a “tell-it like it is” woman. She meant what she said and said what she meant. She was a fashionista in her own respect. She loved to shop and had shoes stacked on top of shoes. Beverly Jo was a gifted cook and she used the gift in church and at home. That gift allowed her to reach people in a special way. Beverly modeled the characteristics of virtuous woman. Her life reflects the love she both gave and received for 57 years. On Sunday, October 19, 2014, in a place she loved and found peace, that place where worship and praise had no limits Beverly quietly passed from time into eternity. One can only image the welcome she received when she answered the Master’s call. She was preceded in her passing by her parents Flozell Thomas Hawthorne (2005) and George V. “Pap” Hawthorne (2009), her sister Everlean Gatlin, a grandson, Cortez Glenn (2000), her beloved husband Freddie Glenn (2007), her son Norris H. Glenn (2012) and her brother Paul L. Gatlin (2013).
