Catherine "Rabbit" Deloris Washington

July 17, 1961 — March 16, 2015

Catherine Deloris Washington, the rare and precious gift of Clara Rogers Cummings and John Cummings was born on July 17, 1961, in Waldo, Arkansas. As a little girl Catherine was full of energy and life. Her parents knew early that she would grow to touch lives and warm the hearts of those she encountered. Although she lacked the power hearing, her eagerness to learn never wavered. She was a 1980 graduate of the Arkansas School for the Deaf where received her high school diploma. She was very active in the deaf community, while advancing in academic excellence and personal independence. It was there the she forged ahead to live a happy and normal lifestyle. “Rabbit” as she was affectionately called “learned to live and lived to learn”. Some of her hobbies included the horse races, traveling, grilling, photography and she was an avid Razorback Fan. She studied the art of photography and enjoyed capturing memorable moments on film. She had an infectious laugh. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own children. Rabbit passed on Monday, March 16, 2015 at National Park Hospital in Hot Springs surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. She leaves to remember her wonderful life; her mother, Clara Mae Rogers Cummings and her stepfather, John Henry Cummings of Gurdon; her siblings, Larry Rome of Denton, TX, Clara Bowie, Lorraine Bowie, Yolanda (Melvin) McCloud all of Gurdon, Lori Williams of Arkadelphia and Vincent (Tawana) Cummings of Hot Springs; two uncles, Louis Rogers of Gurdon and Terry Rogers of Arkadelphia; a dedicated foster family; foster mom, Valerie Ables, and children Morgan Ables and Maegan Ables; her best friends, Virginia Ables, and Teresa Rothwell; other foster family members, Victoria Cox, William Cox and Abigail Cox. Rabbit also leaves a host of nieces, nephews; special nieces and nephews she loved as her own children, Markisha Washington, DeVante Charles,Brandon Bowie, Shawn Cummings and Shane Cummings; several cousins and innumerable friends. Services to commemorate her lived will be shared on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11 at the J. L. Williams Memorial Chapel at Williams Funeral Home with Bro. Calvin Lacy officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 1:00pm-7:00pm. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm.
