George Gould Oliver

February 24, 1936 — April 3, 2015

This life’s journey began on February 24, 1936, when John L. “Johnny” and Jessie Lea Oliver welcomed the birth of a son they named, George Gould Oliver. George grew up in the Bunn Community. The Bunn Community was a thriving, yet small community filled with good neighbors, family and friends whom never met strangers. So much of the community was instilled in George. He attended school there and was raised in the church. George loved to meet new faces and talk for hours. He grew up in a home where self respect, was just as important as respect for others. George loved nature and took pleasure in sitting for hours gazing at the trees, flowers, birds and animals. He would often be found sitting outside watching and waving as people traveled up and down the highway. George was a member of West Gum Springs COGIC under the leadership of Elder James Banks. He was a happy spirit. His smile, hearty laugh and warm embrace will be missed, but never forgotten. In the early morning hours on Friday, April 3, 2015, George transitioned from time into eternity. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosie L. Walker and Lucille Lea. He leaves memories in the hearts of: his sisters,Louise (Bernie) Powers of San Antonio, TX, and Margaret (Elder James) Banks of Bunn, AR; and one brother, Elder John (Mary) Oliver of Sparkman, AR; special nieces and nephews he cherished as his own children, Zira Jones, Gideon Banks, LaSheba Clary, Eric Oliver, John Oliver, Jr., and Precious Oliver and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the St. John’s Place family. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Faith COGIC in Fordyce, Arkansas on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 11:00am with viewing one hour prior to services. Elder James Banks, Eulogist and Elder Arthur Sledge, Officiant. Burial will follow at the Salem Cemetery in the Bunn Community. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Trinity Faith COGIC, 301 Smith Street, Fordyce, Arkansas.
