Glenna Williams-Cook

April 11, 1914 — December 27, 2008

Glenna Williams Cook, the only child of Robert and Samantha Nolan Williams, was born into time on April 11, 1914 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Glenna was baptized at and united with Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at a tender age. She served faithfully as a choir member and as a member of the Ruth Circle. She was a graduate of Peake High School and attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. Glenna was a former employee of Nolen Furniture Store and named by her close friends and family as the “Best Dressed Black Woman in Arkadelphia.” Glenna’s style would include matching hat, purse, shoes and occasionally a fur cape or fur piece. Although Glenna had no children of her own, her greatest joy came from working with children throughout the community. She worked as a foster grandmother at Hours of Joy Day Care Center, Happyland Childcare Center and the Child Care Center at Henderson State University until her health began to fail. On Saturday, December 27, 2008 in her 94th season, she was born into eternity. Those awaiting her arrival were her husband, Walter Cook and her parents. Glenna leaves to cherish her memory: an adopted son and caregiver, Domenique Harper & his wife, Lillian of Arkadelphia, AR; her cousins, Classie Brownlee of Arkadelphia, AR, Betty Elliot of Chesepake, VA, and Oliver Nolan of Forestville, MA; three beloved adopted grandchildren, and a host cousins, friends and of course, the Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Family. A graveside tribute to the life of Sis. Glenna Williams Cook will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Helms Cemetery. Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr., the pastor of Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will officaite. Mrs. Cook will lie in state at the funeral home from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008.
