Arch Craig

January 2, 1931 — February 22, 2010

It was in the winter of January 2, 1931, in Sparkman, Arkansas that Arthur and Maude Harris Craig welcomed a son; they named him Arch. Arch confessed his faith in Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He attended Brush Creek School and worked as self-employed contractor. Arch was a quiet mannered man, cheerful, and was known as “Chevy” or “Pops” by his friends and family. On August 6, 1949, after a brief courtship; and believing God’s Word, “….and the two shall become one flesh….” he married the apple of his eye Eva Taylor. They later became proud parents of five caring and devoted children; Willie, Eva, Phillis, Morrice and Archie. Family gatherings and being with his friends was always a source of joy. He was an avid sports fan whether it was a football, basketball, softball, or baseball game. He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He was a proud brother of the masonic lodge. He enjoyed watching the news, which made him a political expert among his family and he was a “die-hard” democrat. Throughout his life he was a devoted and committed husband, father, loving grandfather, great-grandfather, faithful & trusted friend. On Monday, February 22, 2010, after 79 seasons of life, Arch surrendered his soul to Christ. He was welcomed to his eternal home by a grandson, Donnie Juniel, a sister, Lula Reed and three brothers, Hart Craig, John Arthur Craig and Harvest Craig. Those left to cherish his legacy of love & laughter are: his wife, Eva; one son, Willie Craig of Little Rock, AR; four daughters, Eva (Jimmy) Burks of Little Rock, AR, Phillis (W.C.) Juniel of Bearden, AR, Morrice (Gregory) McKenzie of Sherwood, AR, and Archie Craig of Little Rock, AR; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves four sisters, Lessie Rideout of Waterloo, IA, Vera (Robert) Johnson of Rockford, IL, Maureen Hughes of Sparkman, AR, Joyce (Joe) Cook of Malvern, AR; two brothers, Oreadis (Georgia) Craig of Rockford, IL, Lewis Craig of Rockford, IL; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, numerous friends and the Macedonia Baptist Church family. Mr. Craig will lie in state Friday from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.at the funeral home. Final tributes to his life will be shared on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Macedonia Baptist Church - Sparkman with Rev. J. L. Newborn officiating. Bearers of the casket will be Mark Hughes, Gary Wright, Johnical Craig, Calvis Craig, Anthony Scott, David Whitaker, Terry Craig, and Larry Craig. The committal and final resting place will be in Harmony Community Cemetery.
