Jim Henry Gentry

October 27, 1919 — June 8, 2010

Jim Henry Gentry, was born October 27, 1919, in Antoine, Arkansas, to the late Richard and Caldona Bailey Gentry. He was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age, becoming a member of the choir and praising God thru song until his journey ended. He joined the United States Army in 1942, traveling the United States and Germany, where he stated it rained every day. He later met and married the beautiful Fadie B. Gilyard and to that union one child was born. His journey led him to Flint, Michigan where he met and married Vernice Gentry. He lived there 50 years. He worked for General Motors and retired after 30 years on the assembly line. After his retirement, he spent life enjoying those things he loved most; gardening, fishing, family and friends. He had a laugh and a smile that would brighten any room. The Lord called him home on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Baptist Health Medical center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and wife, two brothers and three sisters. He leaves to cherish his memories; one daughter, Alice Marie Morgan of Okolona, AR; two grandchildren, Latrice Morgan Hale of Okolona, AR, Carl Morgan, Jr., of Kileen, Texas; one great grandson Dequan Jefferson of Okolona, AR; one sister, Etta Jones of Seattle, WA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Gentry will lie in state at Williams Funeral Home on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 12 noon until 4:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Harrison Chapel Baptist Church where Rev. Rufus Hatley is the pastor and will preach the celebration message. The committal service and final resting place will be in Harrison Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
