Burnita Hawthorne

August 19, 1930 — September 28, 2010

The sun rose on the life of Burnita Hawthorne on August 19, 1930 in Gurdon , Arkansas, when she was born as the twin daughter to the union of Ollie and Sallie Hawthorne. During her early childhood she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. She later moved to Galveston, Texas. Although she had no children she played a very active role in raising and nurturing her nieces and nephews. In September of 2008, Burnita and her twin sister, Juanita Hawthorne moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas and reunited with the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church family in Gurdon. Trusting in God’s word “Be thou faithful until death and I will give thee a crown of life,” in her 80th season, Burnita answered the call that no one can refuse. The sun set for her life on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 while she slept. Burnita was greeted by her beloved twin sister Juanita, who made her transition on Monday, December 8, 2008; her parents, three brothers, James Hawthrone, Leon Hawthrone and George Hawthorne who made his transition on Wednesday, August 5, 2009; four sisters, Lucille Cunningham, Bernice Hawthrone, Annie Ellis and Wilma Brown. She leave to cherish her memories: one brother, David Hawthrone and his wife Ruth, of Arkadelphia, one sister, Naomi Samuels of Joliet, Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. Ms. Hawthrone will lie in state in the funeral home on Friday, October 1, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, in Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, with Rev. Johnny Harris officiating. The committal service and final resting place will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Bluff City, Arkansas.
