A Glimpse Into His Life
“Sarge”

Alfred (Sarge) Tyrone Sheffield was born December 28, 1955 in Colquitt, Georgia to the late Richard Sheffield and Bertha Perkins Sheffield. He was the youngest of six children and is preceded in death by his two brothers Roscoe Sheffield and John Sheffield. In 2002, he moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas and joined Pleasant Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church where he remained a faithful member until his passing.

Alfred grew up in Colquitt, Georgia and graduated from Miller County High School in 1973. He developed a love of building cabinets and homes during his high school years. Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served his country for 23 years until his retirement in 1996. He received numerous commendations, traveled the world, performed two tours of duty, attended St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York, and taught military history and professionalism at West Point Military Academy for 3 years. He retired with the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest rank of an enlisted soldier. Upon retirement he started his own construction business where he specialized in remodeling and construction throughout greater Atlanta, Arkadelphia and surrounding communities. He was the Chairman pro tem and secretary for the Board of Trustees as well as a member of the stewards board and Sons of Allen among his church family. He was an active participant of the Buffaloes’ Foundation.

Though Alfred is no longer with us in body, his irreplaceable presence will be deeply missed, and his legacy of strength and integrity will live within our hearts forever.
