Alphonza Junior Ross left us peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the age of 55. He was born on May 17, 1970, in Prescott, Arkansas. He was the loving son of Johnny Clay Ross and Bonnie Ruth Quarles Ross; a beloved brother, friend, and companion to many. He was known for his warm spirit and genuine kindness, which he shared freely with all who crossed his path.
Alphonza was raised in Gurdon and attended Gurdon High School. He embraced life with an unwavering passion for simple pleasures. Whether he was fishing by a serene pond or lake, enjoying his favorite television shows, or listening to the rhythms of his beloved music, Alphonza found joy in the little things. His most cherished moments were those spent in the company of family and friends, where laughter and “a good time” flourished. He shared an unbreakable bond with his faithful German Shepherd, “Foots,” who was not just a pet but his constant companion and best friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Clay (August 15, 1944 -January 4, 2020) and Bonnie Ruth Ross (March 30, 1946 - September 27, 2014); his brother, David W. Ross (February 18, 1964 - January 17, 2019), longtime companion, Willie Bell Smith (May 5, 1946 -October 5, 2022); his aunt, Louisa Young; uncles, Johnny L. Quarles, Ray Quarles and James Quarles.
Alphonza leaves his brothers, Kenneth Ross and Ricky Ross both of Gurdon, Charles Ross, Anthony Ross and Tony Ross, all of Lansing, MI, and his sister, Jessica Ross of Texas. He also leaves his aunts, Lula Carroll, Mildred Anderson and Annie Phifer, uncles, Herman Quarles, Jr., Lonnie Quarles and Lee Quarles; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
