Alvern House Thomas was born into this life on March 5, 1961, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to the union of Amboline and Benjamin House. At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a member of Oak Grove AME Church. Alvern was a graduate of Mountain Pine High School, although she obtained majority of her education through the Arkadelphia Public School District.

Alvern married Anderson Thomas on November 24, 1991. On April 17,1994, their union was blessed with their pride and joy, William Anderson Thomas. Alvern also has one bonus son, Jason Thomas.

Alvern was a member of Piney Grove AME Church, although she spent many years as a member of St. Paul AME church before returning home to Piney Grove. Alvern devoted 36 years of service to Baptist Health Medical Clinic here in Arkadelphia, where she worked as a nurse. She was known for her compassion, care, and kindness she extended to the patients and families she served.

In her free time you would find her outside enjoying working in her flower beds, the many gardens her and AT would have over the years and listening to music styles of Jazz and Artist Joe. Alvern also loved to decorate her home and would spend countless hours, shopping, and re-arranging her “pretties” as she would call the items purchased.

To her family she was the “dancing machine.” Her signature move was the robot, no matter the family function you would find her at some point ready to bust the move. After retirement, Alvern embraced being called one of her most favorite titles, “Gigi” by her grandson Kace Amir Thomas.

After courageously facing cancer three times throughout her lifetime, our beloved Alvern was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2026. Through each journey, she continued to demonstrate strength, courage, and perseverance, leaving behind a beautiful testimony of faith and resilience.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Amboline and Benjamin House, her nephew, Steven McClure, and Uncle and Aunt, George and Mozell Dangerfield.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Anderson Thomas, Jr.; her son, William Thomas of Arkadelphia, AR; bonus son, Jason Thomas of Arlington, TX; beloved grandson, Kace Thomas of Arkadelphia, AR; bonus grandchildren, Jason, Jalen, and Jada “Tink Tink” Thomas, all of Arlington, TX; her five siblings, Elvalyne (Tracy) Scott of Arkadelphia, AR, Bennie Wells of Lansing, MI, Lee (Cathie) House of Arkadelphia, AR, Anita Wells of Arkadelphia, AR, and Savada (James) Wells of Lansing, MI; a host of nieces and nephews, who gave her the special nickname “Aunt Bun Bun”; In-laws; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
