Andrea Marcus Adams came into the world on March 19, 1973, and those who were touched by his life would never be the same. He was the son of Joe Earl Adams and Loretta C. Summerville. His grandmother, Mary Brooks who was well known in the Arkadelphia community knew right away that “Andre” would one day make a forever lasting impression in this world. As a baby he was active and exploratory; he warmed up easily to anyone and possessed an infectious giggle and smile that would melt any heart.

As a little boy, he was baptized and united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was an active member and attended regularly. He was very outgoing and made friends with all races. Andre knew the value and worth of being a true friend. He loved being in the company of family and friends; and was often the center of attention.

Early in his teens, Andre and Anika were blessed DeAndre Lock who preceded him in death, and Maritta Lock. As he matured, he learned what being a parent was all about. He married Gaysha Owens and they were blessed with Drevonne and Tyra. He took his role as a father seriously and wanted to make sure that his children received all of the love and affection they deserved.

If ever a title “Grill King” existed; that he was. While his grilling and cooking made him, even more, poplar; it was his passion and desire to help change the lives of all youth. He worked as a social worker at Community Counseling in Arkadelphia and Hot Springs. His social work heightened awareness of juvenile delinquency. It was at the time he made a conscious decision to make a difference. To get in touch with the youth, he worked as a substitute teacher, which gave him a platform to mentor.

In 2014, Minister Andre Adams became a member of the Destiny International Ministries Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop Junius Williams. He was a member of Men United and was a pee-wee basketball coach. Andre loved Black History and constantly sharpened his knowledge. His home was a treasure of books, articles, studies, and documentaries. Being a consummate reader and with a personal intent to solidify his knowledge he studied Black History and knew it.

Although he was a minister, he was human. He enjoyed listening to blues, ole’ school music, dancing, fishing and he was always down for a round of dominoes.

He greeted life and its circumstances like a “Boss”. In the last season of his life on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, he transitioned from this life. Andre’s death has been swallowed up in Victory. His life has just begun. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe E. Adams; his beloved grandparents Mary and Bobby Joe Brooks and his infant son, DeAndre Lock.

Those left to relish in his memory are his mother, Loretta Conner of Arkadelphia; his children, Maritta Lock, Drevonne Adams both of Arkadelphia and Tyra Adams of Texarkana, AR; grandchildren, Amardre Lock, Amari Lock, Kalina Adams, Kassidy Adams, Khayden Jones, Amir Lock, Kamani Adams and Chance Greene; his sister, Precious Summerville of Hot Springs and his nephew, Delion Summerville of Arkadelphia; aunts and uncles, Anthony Conner, Robert Lee Conner, Shawna Conner, and Kenneth Conner. Andre also leaves and abundance of family, close friends, Terrall Harper, Roderick Bragg, John Powell, Patrick Blevins and Juan Hendrix, numerous other friends who added to the richness of his life.

Bearers of the casket will be Terrall Harper, Patrick Blevins, Cord Gregory, Chris Gregory, Jucory Pigg, Jewel Binns, Roderick Bragg, and John Powell. Honorable to mention are Ray Willis, Roy Pollins, Patrick Nelson, Juan Hendrix, Keith Mothershed, Keith Terry, and Darrell Bunch, Jr.
