Barry Lynn Fort

Barry Lynn Fort was the oldest child born to Eddie M,. Sr., and Millie L. Hill Fort on May 30, 1960 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. As a child he united with St. Paul AME Church. Barry was a 1978 graduate of Arkadelphia High School where he excelled as an athlete in football and basketball.

Barry was a well-known local DJ who loved all genres of music. Two of his favorite songs were “Living for the Weekend” by the O’Jays and “Before I Let You Go” by Frankie Beverly and Maze. He was a hard worker and worked several jobs including driving 18-wheelers. He worked for 17 years at International Paper Company and as a cashier at Fina until his health began to fail in 2015.

He was a proud and die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed competitive cooking and was proud of his homemade larger-than-life hamburger patties.

In his spare time, he enjoyed the company of his family and close friends. He loved to entertain, be entertained and particularly loved the competition associated with dominoes, cards, and the hilarious bragging rights stemming from his frequent wins. He enjoyed taking pictures, and keeping up with friends and family on Facebook.

Above all, Barry will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family and friendship.  He passed from this life on Monday, August 23, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie McKinley "Boo Jack" Fort (December 11, 2013).

He leaves lasting memories with his mother, Millie Fort of Arkadelphia, AR; his children; Berander Russ of Lufkin, TX, Brendan Fort, Arkadelphia, AR; Roderick Gulley, Little Rock, AR and Imani Fort, Little Rock, AR; his siblings Audrey (Carl) Nichols of Little Rock, AR, Kimberly (Richard) Curry of Indianapolis, IN and LaVel (Nichole) Fort of Jacksonville FL, and Eddie (Martesia) Fort, Jr., of Malvern, AR. He also leaves nine grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, his companion Gizelle Oliver; special friends, Shelby McClure, John Sanders, Leon Delamar, Lillian Sanders, J. T. Mitchell, Raymond C. Gray, as well as, several other friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Williams Funeral Home, Interment will be at Piney Grove Cemetery.
