Barry Lee Myers

Barry L. Myers Age 65 of Florissant, MO. Barry Lee Myers was born August 15, 1947 to Ollie Lee and Gloria Jean Harris Myers in St. Louis, MO. At the date of his birth, he had an older brother Scottie whom he was inseparable from. His parents and brother preceded him in death. Barry attended schools in the St. Louis Public School System, and graduated from O’Fallon Technical High School in 1966. While at O’Fallon Tech, he honed his skills in many fields such as carpentry, woodworking, car mechanics, and electricity.

September 7, 1969, he joined the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged on April 27, 1971. The most memorable time of his service was in Viet Nam where he worked on helicopters. While serving in the Army he earned many accolades including the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Occupational Medal, Expert M-16, and others. He met several of his life-long friends during the Viet Nam tour of duty.

After his discharge from the Army, Barry served in the Army Reserves while attending Parks College School of Aviation, an affiliate of St. Louis University. He later secured a job with Ozark Airlines turned Trans World Airlines (TWA) turned American Airlines. He worked as an Aircraft Technician for all three companies and retired from American Airlines in 2006.

On June 12, 1976 Barry married Gwendolyn Hopton and her son Robert “Bobby” Carter, Jr, and readily accepted Bobby as his son. On July 23, 1994 he married Carolyn Wilson Gilkie and her two children Jada Paulette and Jon Paul Wilson and accepted them as his children as well. His civic duties included serving as a Trustee for the Sherwood Creek Subdivision. The residents of Sherwood Creek knew they could count on Barry to help with keeping up signage and making sure the subdivision was kept up-to-code in appearance. He was a member of Greater Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Earl E. Nance, Pastor where he had the honor of serving on the Centennial Committee 2010 - 2012.

He departed this life on February 5, 2012 at his home with his wife Carolyn, family and care-giver by his side. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife Carolyn; his children Bobby (Michele) Carter of St. Louis, MO, Jon Paul Wilson of Hazelwood, MO, and Jada (Jackie, Jr.) Richardson of Little Rock, AR; four grandchildren - Desmond, Danielle, Raevynn Carter and Jaynie Carol Richardson; Odessa Newby, the Matriarch of his Myers’ Family; his brother’s children Scott “Scobby” Myers, Nicole Myers and Elizabeth Myers of St. Louis, MO, and Regina Myers of Nashville, TN; four other nieces and two nephews, three great-nephews, two great nieces, one great-great nephew; four brothers-in-law and their wives, and a multitude of cousins and friends.
