Bobbie Mae Gill

October 25, 1943 — November 14, 2023

Gurdon

Bobbie Mae Gill, 80, passed away peacefully at Nightingale Rehabilitation Center in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, on November 14, 2023, at approximately 3:15 P.M.  She was born in Beirne, Arkansas, on October 25, 1943, to Nellie Mae Green and Garland Green.

Bobbie was a hardworking woman who loved her family and friends. She enrolled and completed a G.E.D program of which she was extremely proud in 1990.   She was baptized at an early age at Shady Grove Church in Beirne, Arkansas, and later joined Mt. Cannon Baptist Church in Gurdon, Arkansas, where she remained a member.

In 1965 she married the love of her life, Willis Gill Jr., aka Junior Boy, who preceded her in death just four months ago.  To this union three children were born:  Sharon D. Gill, Rickie D. Gill, and Tammy R. Walker (Johnny).

Bobbie remained an active member of the Gurdon community throughout her life.  She worked various jobs such as Gulley’s Package Store for 25 years in Bluff City, Pactiv Corporation in Malvern, and from there to the Senior Adult Center in Gurdon.  Bobbie was a kind and loving soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother.  She will also be missed by her many friends and neighbors. Bobbie Mae and her sister Martha Mae had an inseparable bond, you see one you see the other.  Not only were they sisters but obviously very close friends. She was known for her love of music, particularly “the Blues!  She favored artists such as, Tyrone Davis, Johnnie Taylor, BB King, and Bobby Blue Bland.” Her favorite song was, “Mom’s Apple Pie!” by Johnnie Taylor.  There was nothing like Bobbie cooking a good meal playing good music (as long as it was the blues) and socializing with family and friends.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Mae Green and Garland Green, and her husband, Willis Gill Jr., and a sister, Etta Maud Simmons of California.   She is survived by her sister, Martha Mae Charles, of Gurdon, Shirley Simmons-Washington, and brother Len Simmons from California, Three children, Sharon D. Gill, Rickie D. Gill who reside in Gurdon, and Tammy R. Walker (Johnny) of Forney, Texas; her two grandchildren, Stefon D. Gill, of Texarkana, Arkansas and Celes J. Walker, Forney, Texas; two great-grandchildren; Jayson D. Gill of Dallas, TX and Serenity D. Jones of Texarkana, AR and one nephew, David W. Charles.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, in Gurdon Arkansas, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Johnny Harris, officiating.
