Cassandra Denise Young

April 30, 1964 — March 5, 2022

Cassandra, affectionately known to us all as, “San”, was born April 30, 1964, in Gurdon, Arkansas at 509 Seahorn Street.  San was the second child of three children born to Vernell and Shirley Gulley.

Cassandra accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Cannon Baptist Church in Gurdon, Arkansas.  She attended Gurdon Public School System and graduated from high school with the class of 1983.  She worked in various fields throughout the communities, at companies such as True Care Day Care in Little Rock, Pineview Nursing Home, Morris Automotive, Tyson Poultry, and finally Pettie Jean Poultry, where she worked as a QC (Quality Control).

Cassandra met and married Willie Young of Okolona, Arkansas, in May 1981, to this union two daughters were born, Kashonna and Jennifer. Her third and youngest daughter, Daz’meonta, was later born in the union of San Young and Cedric Crusoe.

San was always a “Social Butterfly”.  She was such a lively and amusing person and so much fun to be around.  She was always surrounded by fun-loving family and friends.   Her favorite activities were playing cards (Tunk or Spades), and dominoes, winning, and talking plenty of “smack.”  She was so good at dominoes, she could tell her opponents what they had left in their own hand, without seeing it.   She also loved watching football and basketball games on television.

Cassandra transitioned from this life on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at her home in Gurdon.  She was preceded in death by her dad, Vernell Gulley and brother, Terence Gulley.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother Shirley Gulley of Gurdon, AR; three daughters, Kashonna Young, of Gurdon, AR, Jennifer Young of Nashville, AR and Daz’meonta Crusoe of Gurdon, AR; one sister, Lolita House (Raymond) of Corona, CA; one granddaughter, Kaylee Nolan of Nashville AR; six nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; one uncle, Sidney Lawson of Milwaukee, WI., and two aunts, Gurtherine Hughes of Gurdon, AR and Burna Dean Gulley Purifoy of Bluff City, AR; a host of very close cousins, other relatives, and friends.  Special recognition to her nephew Jamarion who looked after her and held a very special place in her heart.
