Claretta Marene Bradley-Scott was born on June 17, 1954, at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas, to Charlie “Red” and Virginia Bradley. She was the beloved sister of Thomas Jerome Bursey and Dianah Watson.
Claretta graduated from Liberty-Eylau High School in June 1972 and later attended Prairie View A&M University. During this time, she met and married her first husband, Kenneth Earl Shavers. From this union, her son, Antonio M. Shavers, was born in 1973.
A devoted woman of faith, Claretta was an active member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Nash, Texas, where she gave her life to the Lord. She loved serving, especially through singing in the choir. Claretta was a praying child of God who knew exactly where her strength came from.
She found joy in spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends—especially her best friend, Drucilla “Dee” Russell. Claretta loved vacationing, fishing, and cooking, and she never hesitated to feed you—even if you weren’t hungry.
Claretta had an exceptional work ethic and was a dedicated employee of Texarkana National Bank for more than 30 years. In June 1995, she married Edward Scott of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and later relocated there. She continued her commitment to service by working in the Henderson State University Bookstore for an additional five years before retiring. After moving to Arkadelphia, she became a faithful member of St. Ruth Baptist Church, where she continued her walk with the Lord.
On Saturday, December 6, 2025, with her family by her side, Claretta was called home to be with her Heavenly Father. Let our hearts not be troubled, for she now rests in a place without pain or suffering—a place where age does not weary and where every day is filled with God’s eternal sunshine.
2 Corinthians 5:1 (NIV) “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
Claretta’s loving memory will forever be cherished by her husband, Edward Scott; her son, Antonio (Paola) Shavers; her brother, Thomas (Margaret) Bursey; and her sister, Dianah (Edward) Watson. She will be remembered by her grandchildren—Jaylin Shavers, Kendall Shavers, and Madison Shavers.
She is also treasured by her nieces, Phlecia (Vic) Geary of Heath, Texas, and Nadajalah (Charlie) Dean of Frisco, Texas, and reunited in heaven with her nephew, James Bursey. Claretta leaves behind her lifelong best friend, Drucilla Russell, and a host of extended family and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
