Claudell “Pooch” Turner

Claudell Turner “Pooch” Turner was born on January 31, 1941 in Pelican, Louisiana to the union of Rochelle and Henrietta Turner.

He was a graduate of All Saint High School and served in the United States Army for 19 years. 

After his military career, Claudell returned to Pelican and worked as a entrepreneur and heavy machine operator. He married Myrtle Lee Gosey and to this union six children were born.

“Pooch” as he was commonly called was the true “life of the party”. He was always ready to be in the company of family and friends. He was witty and “tight”. He enjoyed fishing, and hunting. On quiet days he could be found watching westerns, wresting and baseball. 

Above all, “he did it his way”. On Saturday, March 23, 2019,  he passed into the Lord’s embrace. He was preceded in death by his parents, and eleven siblings.

Pooch leaves a lifetime of memories with his companion of 35 years, Ann Walker of Pelican, LA; his children, Terry Turner of Houston, TX, Antionette Turner of Bossier City, LA, Carletia Wilbert of Shreveport, LA, Norman (Cassandra) Turner of Pleasant Hill, LA, Samuel “Sam” Turner of Pelican, LA, Claudell “Maine” Turner of San Antonio, TX, Donnell (Karen) Turner of Keithville, LA, Jarvis Franklin of Pelican, LA, Chadric Green of Mansfield, LA and Chris Howard of Houston, TX; one brother, Vernon Turner of Kansas City, KS

He also leaves behind 32 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a host of cousins and friends who will miss him deeply.

Public visitation will be from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Jenkins Funeral Home, 170 Van Buren Street, Mansfield, LA, 71052. A celebration of his life will be shared at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2019 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Moses Smith, eulogist. Interment will be the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers will be Tony Turner, Maurice Turner, Montrae Hall, Jarvis Franklin, Norman Turner and Terry Turner, Jr., Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Turner, Donnell Turner, Terry Turner, Sam Turner, Claudell Turner, Chadric Green and Chris Howard.  0
