Cody Lee Hunter, Jr., was born on May 19, 1953, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to Cody Lee Hunter, Sr., and Tennie Marie Jefferson Martin.
He attended Peake High School, where he played tuba in the school band. Cody united with St. Paul AME Church under the leadership of Rev. James Thomas.
A natural craftsman, Cody inherited his gift for working with his hands from his mother. He was a carpenter who could build nearly anything, including dollhouses and clocks. He also enjoyed drawing; given enough time, he could sketch a picture with remarkable detail.
Cody was quiet and often kept to himself. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to gospel and blues music. He enjoyed family and never missed an opportunity to share stories of the past.
Cody passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cody Lee Hunter, Sr., and Tennie Marie Jefferson Martin; his sister, Wanda Jean Gibson; brother, William Harris and his sister-in-law, Maria Williams.
He leaves his children Sa’Liesha Hunter, Chan’ta Hunter, Cody Hunter, Cyron Daniels, Shawnee Hunter, Camran Hunter, Amyah Hunter and Co’Meika Hunter; four sisters, Judy K. Hill of Arkadelphia, AR, Tonja B. Martin of Dallas, TX, Carmeletta Hunter and Zondra Hunter both of Houston, TX; four brothers, John Hunter (Lesa) of Searcy, AR, Eric D. Martin, Sr., Benton, AR, Anthony B. Martin of Dallas, TX and Lee Andrew Martin (Paulette) of Dallas, TX; Shirley Gentry whom he loved like a sister; sister in law Lucille Harris-Williams; and one special nephew Alexander D. Newborn (Adonna). He also leaves a host of niece, nephews, other relatives and friends.
