Obituary

Derick “D.O.” Owens was born on August 30, 1969, to the late Elder Joe Willis Owens and Missionary Rosie Jean Gannaway Owens. On November 14, 2025, Derick peacefully transitioned from this life at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Derick will forever be remembered for his warm heart, determined spirit, and the deep love he held for his family. His presence touched countless lives, and the legacy he leaves behind reflects a life filled with purpose, resilience, and compassion. A man of many trades—most notably a Bail Bondsman for T.Gard—and a faithful Coca-Cola lover, Derick approached everything he did with energy and enthusiasm.

He attended the Arkadelphia School District, where he eagerly participated in every sport possible He was especially known for his love of basketball, his sweet-natured humor, and being both the school’s “candy man” and everyone’s class clown.

At a young age, Derick began his walk with the Lord, guided by the leadership of his father. He accepted Christ early in life and continued to grow in faith throughout his adulthood. He later became a dedicated member and drummer at New Hope COGIC under the late Elder G.C. Nolan. After the passing of New Hope’s leadership, Derick faithfully served at Greater Tate Temple under Superintendent Leroy Williams.

As life continued Derick married Arlinda Shutes-Cooksey, and together they welcomed two daughters, Crystal and Dieasha Owens—both the pride and joy of his heart. Though that season of life eventually changed, Derick’s devotion to his children and his commitment to personal growth never wavered.

Derick later met the woman who would become the love of his later life, his wife, Patricia Kaye Alice Owens. Together, they created a beautiful and blended family. Adrain, Corrie, and Latoya loving them wholeheartedly and without hesitation.

Besides family and close friends, Derick cherished the bonds he formed with his Mason brothers at St. Luke Lodge 23 and took joy in the simple and meaningful moments they had.

Derick is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Patricia Kaye Owens; his parents, Elder J.W. Owens and Rosie Jean Gannaway Owens; his brother, Nathan Owens; his sister, Missionary Willie Jean Jackson; and his nieces, Ai’layahBerry and Karlynn Quarles.

He leaves to honor his memory his daughters, Crystal Owens, Dieasha Owens, and La’ Toya Thomas; his sons, Adrain White, Corrie White, and Derynn Owens; his sister, La’Quinta Owens; his brother, John Owens; special brothers, Fredrick Owens, Eric Scott, Jeremiah Stephens, Dvonne Smith, Terence Matlock and Joshua Stevens; fifteen grandchildren; and a host of loving family members and friends.
