Deverna Bates Cummings

Deverna Bates Cummings was born on May 15, 1951, in Camden, Arkansas to the union of James and Alberta Porchia Bates. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Camden and a 1970 graduate of Lincoln High School in Camden.

She married John Elic Cummings and to this union, two sons were born, John Cummings and Albert C Cummings.  Deverna was a former employee at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed crafting and gardening.

Deverna passed quietly on Friday, May 24, 2024, at her home in Arkadelphia. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alberta Bates; her son, John Cummings, and her siblings, Barbara Child, James Henry Nettles, and Dave Ware.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John E. Cummings of Arkadelphia; her son, Albert C. Cummings; her grandson, Noah Isiah Cummings; her sister, Ailene Key and her brother, George Bates both of Camden, Arkansas. She also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at First United Pentecostal Church, 2711 Country Club Road, Arkadelphia, Arkansas 71923 with Rev. Richard Price, eulogist. The interment will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Arkadelphia.
