Dorothy Payne Hopson was born on January 16, 1943, to Adolph Payne and Birda Mae Gordon Payne in Camden, Arkansas. She united with Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church at a very early age. She started as an usher at the age of 9 and has remained faithful to her duties until her departure of her life. Dorothy was a member of the BPW woman organization and president of the usher board for several years until her illness took over. Dorothy attended AM&N College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, which is now known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. On February 17, 2001, she married Arlea Hopson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph Payne and Birda Mae Gordon Payne; husband, Arlea Hopson; and brother Vanco Payne.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories with her daughter, Keishia McCauley of Camden, AR; 2 sisters, Effie (Ralph) Pace of Milwaukee, WI; Bertha (Frank) McDonald of Ft. Gibson, OK; 3 brothers, Adolphus Payne of Oklahoma City, OK; Carl Payne of Camden, AR; Shelby Payne of Texas; 2 grandchildren, JaQualen K. Williams, KaShaad Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, friends, and the Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church family.

Public visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Williams Funeral Home Van Buren. A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church in Camden, Arkansas, with Rev. Anthony Thompson, eulogist. The interment will be at Patton Cemetery in Camden, Arkansas.
JaQualen K. Williams, KaShaad Williams, Bertrand Johnson, Shelby Payne, Terry Wade, Andrea Davis, and Carl Payne will serve as active pallbearers.
