Dorsey R. Henry passed from this life leaving behind a legacy shaped by strength, discipline, and an unbreakable bond with God’s creation. Born with a heart that beats outdoors, Dorsey lived a full life. He was born on October 28, 1956, in Gurdon, Arkansas. He was number 13 of 18 children born to John Mack Henry and Samella Hicks Henry.
He attended Carrie Street Church of God. After high school graduation in 1974, he landed a job at the International Paper Company, now Georgia Pacific where we retired after 39 years. On January 16, 1987, he married the love of his life Myra Green, and their union was blessed with two children.
When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, you could almost always find him raising and breeding squirrel dogs. It was another way he connected with the world around him, appreciating the quiet gifts that come from patience and time spent outdoors. He enjoyed sports and it was no secret that he was a Raiders and Laker’s fan.
Dorsey will be remembered as a man of strength, a man of skill, and a man whose soul was deeply connected to the land, the forest, and the open skies. He lived boldly, loved deeply, and embraced the life God laid out for him - with courage, gratitude, and purpose.
He leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Rico Cone; and siblings, Mary Ellen Cheeseman, Florence Owens, Johnella Thompson, Ada Henry, Glenda Akil, Billy Joe Henry and Willie Henry.
Memories will remain in the hearts of his wife, Myra Henry; her children, Tony Henry of Dallas TX, Elisha Cone and Brandon Henry both of Gurdon, AR; six grandchildren, Kea’Myra Sanders, Alexis Sanders, Braydon Henry, Peydon Henry, Tony Henry, Jr., and La’Darius Henry; six sisters, Ruth Pruitt of Vallejo, CA, Floreda Briscoe of Gurdon, AR, Mae Eva (Marshall) Herbert of Vallejo, CA, Dale (Ken) Roberts of Oakland, CA, Vada (Calvin) Miller of Las Vegas, NV, and Lesia Browning of Shreveport, LA; four brothers, Jasper (Faye) Henry of Dallas, TX, Booker (Carol) Henry of Phoenix, AZ, Johnny (Ruby) Henry of Gurdon, AR and Jeffrey (Mary) Henry, Sr., of Gurdon, AR; his close friend, Rev. Visitation will be held Friday, October 9, 2026, from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of his life will be shared on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with Rev. Ivory Curry, eulogist. Interment will be at Rose Hedge Cemetery. The family will gather for fellowship at the Comfort Zone, 313 Carrie St., Gurdon, Arkansas.
