Fannie Mae Horton was born on September 19, 1952, in the Mt. Morriah Community of Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was the beloved daughter of Charlie Doss and Gilberta Smith Eason. Fannie’s kindness and generosity will forever be remembered by those who knew her.

She worked at Levi’s for several years before joining Aalf’s Manufacturing Company until it closed. Following that, she was employed with Petit Jean Poultry for many years until her health began to decline.

Fannie enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with her friends and family whenever she could. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she loved talking on the phone to those dear to her. Her favorite television shows included Perry Mason, football, basketball, game shows, and In the Heat of the Night. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

On May 20, 1972, Fannie married Wunderful Charles Horton, and together they had four children: Melanie, Anitra, Alethea, and Charles Horton, Jr.

Fannie passed away on June 16, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Doss and Gilberta Smith Eason, as well as her brothers, Joseph Edward Eason and Doss Algin Eason. She also mourned the loss of her niece, Traci Eason, and her nephew, Carl Johnson, Jr.

Her children—Melanie Horton of Arkadelphia, Anitra Horton of Arkadelphia, Alethea Horton of Little Rock, and Wunderful Charles Horton, Jr. of Arlington, Texas—will forever feel the love and memories of their mother. Fannie is also survived by two brothers, Prince Lee (Catherine) Eason of Malvern and Tracy (Sandra) Eason of Arkadelphia; a sister, Margaret (Carl) Johnson of Arkadelphia; an aunt, Christine Quarles of Arkadelphia; and grandchildren Arnesha (DeQuan) Talley of Arkadelphia, Tierra Johnson of Conway, Arkansas, and Devon Bivens of Arkadelphia, as well as great-grandchildren Aiden Pickett and Kairo Talley.

She is also survived by brothers-in-law Artell (Janice) Horton and James (Alice) Horton; sisters-in-law Lucretia Hester and Consevella (Vernon) James; a special cousin, Charlotte DeFore; and close friends Gracie Eason, Diane Ledbetter, Barbara Ussery, and Patricia Golden. Fannie leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless family members and friends, as well as the Baptist Hospice nurses Christina and Brandy.
