Gloria Leatrice McAfee

September 10, 1941 — March 18, 2021

Gloria McAfee was born in Wabbaseka Arkansas to the late T.P. and Bobbie Noel. During her youth she attended South East High School in Pine Bluff Arkansas. On August 12th, 1960, she welcomed her first born son Phillip Noel. She graduated a year later from Pine Bluff High school. Gloria (Mama) confessed the hope in Christ at the age of 12 while under the leadership of Rev. Scott where she remained a faithful member.

She married Joseph Carlton Jynes Sr. In April of 1964. To this union four boys were born;

Joseph C. Jynes Jr., Barry A. Jynes, Darnell D. Jynes and Anthony L. Jynes. In 1979, she moved to Merced, CA. Gloria (Mama) Received her certificate as a CNA and worked in that field for 20 years. Gloria (Mama) was always willing to help the less fortunate. She later met Chester Morris and to this union a son was born, Christopher J. Morris. After the passing of Chester Morris, she then met and married Rodger McAfee, an Almond farmer and activist, and partnered with him in his almond orchards. Tragically, Rodger lost his life in a car accident. She left the life as an Almond farmer to become a tutor, mentoring young students.

Gloria (Mama) was involved in many organizations. She served as president of WILPF (Women International League for Peace and Freedom). This organization is a nonprofit that works for peace, justice, disarmament, and human rights. She also served as treasurer for the Fresno Democratic Club, and she was a member of the Central Democratic and Raging Granny Clubs. She attended Merced Reedley College in Reedley CA.

To know Gloria (Mama) was to love her. She loved her family. They were the most important thing in her life. She adored her sisters Eloise, Barbara, and Terri. Her sons meant the world to her, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her jewels. Mama had an infectious smile that would quickly capture your heart. After a brief illness God saw that it was time to bring this great woman of God to be with him.

She leaves to mourn in her passing six sons: Phillip A. Noel of Arkadelphia AR, Joseph C. Jynes Jr. (Joyce) of Fresno CA, Barry A. Jynes (Lejuana) of Los Banos CA, Darnelle D. Jynes of Brentwood CA, Anthony L. Jynes (Darlene) of Merced CA, Christopher J. Morris (Bridgette) of Merced CA. Two sisters Barbara Gunn of Little Rock Arkansas, Eloise Coleman (Leroy) of England Arkansas and her California sister, Debra Martin of Merced CA.

Gloria (Mama) is preceded in death by her parents T.P. and Bobbie, and sister Terri.

She leaves to carry on her legacy 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends that loved her. Rest well MAMA G!
