Grace Halton

January 24, 1929 — March 24, 2024

Smackover, Arkansas

On January 24, 1929, in Louann, Arkansas, Phillip Johnson, Sr. and Gleasie Jones Johnson celebrated the birth of a daughter they named Grace. She was the fourth child of six children born to this union. She was raised by her maternal grandparents due to her mother’s passing.

At a tender age, she joined Good Home Baptist Church where she served faithfully and dutifully as a choir member, matron, and with the WMU. She also was one of the voices of the Smackover Community Choir. Those she touched and those who knew her witnessed her untiring love for God. At the time of her homegoing, she was the oldest member of Good Home Baptist Church.

After graduating from Lafayette High School, she later married C. O. Halton in 1956, and the Lord added to their union four children: Glenda, Clifford, Juanita, and Janice.

Grace worked in janitorial services for several years at Fairview School.

She was an avid reader of the Bible and she also enjoyed singing and doing crossword puzzles. Although Grace never drove herself, she managed to travel to various cities and states with family members and friends. Her greatest joy was being around family and her grandchildren often had sleepovers at her home.

On Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the blessed age of 95, she gracefully passed into the Lord’s embrace. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 3 brothers, and 2 sisters; her husband, C. O. Halton, who passed in 1979, her son-in-law, Joseph G. Alexander, her granddaughter, Myria Johnson Jackson, and two great-grandchildren.

She leaves an abundance of love and memories to her children; Glenda Douglas and Clifford Halton both of Camden, AR, Juanita Todd and her husband Joe of Memphis, TN, and Janice Alexander of Smackover, AR; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and the Good Home Baptist Church family.
