Hollis Bea Simpson

New Boston, Texas

Hollis Bea Simpson was born on January 25, 1937, to Opal Lillie Matlock and Hollis Ray Jefferson. She accepted Christ at a youthful age and was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Sparkman, Arkansas. She attended Sparkman Training School.


“Hollis Bea” as she was affectionately called, was a mild-mannered woman who never met a stranger. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, cooking, and listening to the Blues and Gospel. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Hollis Bea met and married the love of her life, Mr. D. L. Simpson. Together, they made a home for all to feel welcome.


Hollis Bea passed away from this life on Monday, January 22, 2024. She joined the ranks of her family who preceded her in death; her parents, Opal Lillie Matlock and Hollis Ray Jefferson; her husband, D.L. Simpson; her children, Alvin Roscoe, and Dexter Roscoe.

 

Her presence, her memory, and love will forever be cherished by her six children, Joyce Parham of Sparkman, AR; Lea (Bennie) Booker of Sparkman, AR; Della Stephens of New Boston, TX; Bobby (Peggy) Roscoe of Sparkman, AR; Shavon Roscoe of Arkadelphia, AR; Diane Hampton of Las Vegas, NV; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, cousins, other family members and several other friends.

 

Public visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, and the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of her life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Sparkman, Arkansas, with Rev. Roy L. Owens, eulogist. The interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Sparkman, Arkansas.


D.C. Austin, Jr., David Hall, James Craig, Darius Guinn, Eric Cowley, and Curtis Walker will serve as active pallbearers.
