James Edward Marshall, Jr., departed this life February 12, 2023, with his family by his side. James Edward Marshall, Jr., was born on December 26, 1956, in Nashville, Arkansas to James Marshall, Sr. and Mary Burchette Marshall.

James grew up in Nashville, Arkansas where everyone knew him as “Champ.” Some would even address him as “Champion!” Champ attended High School in Nashville, Arkansas. After high school Champ enlisted in the United States Army in 1982. He served in the Desert Storm and dutifully served 10 years in the Army reserve. Champ was also employed at Poulan Weedeater for numerous years.

Champ loved his friends and family. He especially enjoyed conversations with his sister and watching his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews grow and play. He loved detailing cars and took great pride in his work. Champ was very kind-hearted and very seldom made enemies. His generous smile and contagious laughter will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Marshall, Sr., and Mary Burchette Marshall; grandparents, Wade Burchette and Lillie Burchette; twin-sister, Tina Marshall; and a nephew, CJ Ellis.

Champ is survived by his only sister, Trina (Cecil) Ellis of Texarkana, AR; cousins, Sonya (Alvin) Hunter of Hope, AR, Arthur Manning of Nashville, AR, nieces, Stephany Ellis of Texarkana, AR, Renee Harris of Texarkana, AR, Kadedra Ellis of Texarkana, AR; great-nieces, Mercedes Harris of Texarkana, AR, Marquilla Harris of Texarkana, AR, Tazoria Phillips of Texarkana, AR, Nikeya Harris of Texarkana, AR, Master K' San Davis of Texarkana, AR, Zykia Williams, Ajah Jamison and Aviana Jamison; great-nephews, Torey Phillips, Jr., Torion Phillips of Texarkana, AR, Trey Ellis of Texarkana, AR, Kobe Ellis of Hope, AR, Peyton Ellis of Magnolia, AR, Eli Carpenter,  and Anthony Johnson; special friends, Shaqualla Jackson and Oniquica Phillips. He also leaves a host of great-great nieces, nephews, and other friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023, at the funeral home.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at New Testament House of Prayer with Rev. Alvin Hunter, officiating and Pastor Chris Smith, eulogist. The body will lie in-state one hour prior to service time at the church. The interment will be at St. John Cemetery in the Buck Range Community with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Jeff Turney, Leon Anderson, Ray Charles Williams, Stephen Thorton, Torey Phillips, and Torian Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Manning and Cecil Ellis.
