John Abram Nolen, Jr., commonly known as “Nino”, was born on November 8, 1977, at Nevada County Hospital in Prescott, Arkansas, to John Abram Nolen Sr. and Phena Isabella Harrington.
He was a lifelong member of Ward Chapel AME Church. Nino graduated from Prescott High School in 1996 and was one of the most popular guys who walked the halls of Prescott High School. He had a passion for baseball and rap music and was known for his love of football.
In his spare time, he enjoyed entertaining and being entertained. He particularly loved the competition associated with betting on the winning NFL football team and the hilarious bragging rights stemming from his frequent wins.
Nino was a beloved son, a devoted companion, and a wonderful father. He was known for his easygoing nature, his impeccable style – jewelry and matching shoes for every occasion and his ability to bring people together. He was one of the original “Chaney Boyz”. He enjoyed social gatherings, playing dominoes, and cherishing time with family and friends.
His children were his world, and he was their biggest fan in the stands cheering on his kids. He understood the assignment of fatherhood and helped shape their academic success.
Nino was a true legend in Prescott. He passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana surrounded by his loved ones. Nino was preceded in death by his brother, Abram Bernard Nolen.
He leaves the love of his life, Charmaine Smith of Prescott, AR; his parents, John Abram Nolen, Sr., and Phena (Henry) Spellman; six children, De’Jon Ali Nolen, Quentin LeJon Nolen, De’Jonae Alia Nolen all of Prescott, AR, Kentrell Keyshawn Nolen of Hope, AR, John Abram Nolen, III and Royalty King Nolen both of Gurdon, AR; one grandson, Zyaire Nolen; siblings, Talesha L. Nolen of Prescott, AR, Cortney Woods of Hope, AR, Shontelle D. McKillion of Prescott, AR and Tirrell Hatley of Longview, TX. He also leaves aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, cousins and several friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 12:00 noon until service time at Ward Chapel AME Church. Services will begin at 1:00 PM with Rev. Linda Butler, eulogist. Interment will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Beirne, Arkansas.
