A Beautiful Life Remembered

Kathia (Matlock) Betts was born on December 4, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, to her loving parents, Shandria and Earthie L. Giles Matlock. She was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose life reflected strength, kindness, and compassion.

Family was at the heart of Kathia’s life. She treasured time with those she loved and brought warmth, laughter, wisdom, and comfort to everyone around her. Her caring spirit and generous nature left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Kathia will be remembered for her courage to speak up for what she believed in, her compassion for others, and her unwavering devotion to her family. She found joy in reading, playing cards—especially spades—cooking, and gathering with loved ones. Through her work caring for young minds, she helped children learn and grow while making sure they received nutritious meals each day.

As a wife, Kathia devoted 42 years to her beloved husband Nathaniel Betts Sr. Their marriage was an important chapter in her life, filled with shared experiences, love and memories that will forever be held close to his heart. Throughout their marriage Kathia gave birth to 3 beautiful children, Nathaniel Betts Jr., Jasmine Hardy (Betts) and Angelica Betts. Her love extended beyond the bonds of her biology, embracing her stepdaughters Rochelle (Dee) Creor and Monica Betts as an important part of her family. As a mother, Kathia gave all children unconditional love and guidance. The lessons she shared, the memories she created, and the example she set will continue to live on in the hearts of her family. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children, stepdaughters, and beloved grandbabies Jazelle, Jupiter, Zachary Jr, and Zaxton, all of whom were a special blessing in her life.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end, Kathia’s influence remains in the lives she touched and the family she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and lovingly remembered. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will remain with us always.
