Obituary

Lois Marie Sago was born on September 20, 1941, in Dalark, Arkansas to the union of Jesse and Maud S. Delamar Jones. Her gift of tender loving care shaped her life as she helped her mother care for her father, as well as an aunt.

She accepted Christ at a young age. Intelligent, shy and fiercely loyal, she formed life-long friendships with many classmates of Peake High School, and special family ties with her first cousins. Lois graduated from Peake High School as Valedictorian in 1958 and left for Texas where she attended and graduated from Tyler Beauty and Barber College.

Curious and excited about the possibilities of life outside of Arkansas, she headed north to Rockford, Illinois and began her search for greater job opportunities. However, finding love at 21 years of age, she married Lee Sago in 1962 and started her own family, first giving birth to Roderick Clay, then Monica Pearl. Lee was a great provider, allowing her the privilege to care for the home, their children and her sisters-in-love.

She was a member of Gethsemane Christian Church in Rockford under the leadership of Pastor Bruce Carter and she was a member of Princess Zorah Chapter #20 Order of the Eastern Stars, Rockford, IL.

Lois landed job at Rockford Products where she remained for 26 years before retiring at the age of 62. She was an independent woman and mother. She began to forge her career while raising her two children providing for them well beyond the necessities of life.

With a youthful spirit, she continued to nurture and live with the exuberance of a teenager. She was an avid baker of sweet bread, cakes, cookies, and pies. She truly lived a life of service to those who were fortunate to be in her life as family and friend.

In 2003, Lois returned home to Arkadelphia to be closer to her mother, friends and community, which had first inspired her to seek out a well-rounded and fulfilling life. Her gift followed her as she cared for both her mother and brother. She rededicated herself as a member of St. Paul AME Church under the leadership of Rev. T. W. Scott and reestablished close ties to her cousins, family and friends there. At 84 years of age, on November 24, 2025, Lois was called upon by God’s Holy command to leave this temporary life and begin her Eternal Life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Maud Delamar; her sister, Mae Ellen Jones; brother, Willie James Jones and son, Roderick Clay Sago; sister-in-love, Charlene Alexander.

Lois leaves behind her daughter, Monica Pearl Sago of Rockford, IL; an uncle, Oliver Delamar of Oakland, CA; her beloved first cousins, Dorothy Reed of Detroit, MI, Willie Delamar Norman, Claudie Mae Delamar, Sandra (Tracy) Eason, Claude (Reva) Delamar, Carl Delamar all of Arkadelphia and Clifford Delamar of Malvern, AR, Audrey Carter, Freddie (Faye) Carter, Emmanuel (Debra) Carter, Michael Jones all of Arkadelphia, David (Judy) Jones of VA, Ava (David) Carter-Noblin of Cartertown, Brenda (JT) Carter-Mitchell of Little Rock and Trina Howard of Chicago, Il. She also leaves her sisters-in-law and numerous other cousins and friends.

Public visitation will be Friday, December 5, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, with a Family Hour from 6:00–7:00 p.m. Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Sago will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Interment will be at Houston- Turner Cemetery in Dalark, Arkansas.
