Odell Hopson, Jr., affectionately known as “Spaceman,” passed from this life on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was 48 years old.
Born on July 14, 1977, in Camden, Arkansas, to Odell Hopson, Sr. and Betty Hopson, Odell’s life was marked by a distinctive blend of grounded community presence and expansive intellectual curiosity. From an early age, he demonstrated what might be described as a philosophical affinity for the cosmos—an enduring fascination with space, extraterrestrial life, and the broader mysteries of the universe. This curiosity, which earned him the nickname “Spaceman,” was not merely whimsical; it reflected a deeper contemplative disposition, a desire to understand what lay beyond the visible sky and within the vast unknown.
Hopson attended and graduated from Camden High School, after which he pursued a career in construction, specializing in concrete work.
His “down-home” demeanor, with a notably bright smile, made him a beloved figure in Camden. He possessed a natural ease that drew others toward him, reinforcing his role as both friend and confidant within his community. His personality served as a cornerstone of his identity.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lonnie and Marzella Ridley; paternal grandparents, Dale and Betty Hopson; siblings, Keisha Moore and Eddie Moore.
He is survived by his parents, Odell Hopson, Sr. of Camden, Arkansas, and Betty and Charles Moore of Camden; his son, Trevion Hopson, and bonus son, Jared Seals, both of Camden; and seven sisters: LaSandra Smith of Texarkana, Arkansas; Rhonda Hopson of Grand Prairie, TX, Kristi Hopson, Melissa McKenzie (Raymond) all of Camden; and Kimberly Hopson of Little Rock, Arkansas; Kimberly Moore-Davis (Carlos) and Krystal Moore all of Camden. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
