Otis Washington

March 4, 1951 — May 25, 2022

Otis Washington was born March 4, 1951, on a bright and cool spring day in Camden, Arkansas. He was the one and only child born to Dorothy and Hampton Washington, Jr., who were proud parents.

His mother passed when he was two years old. He was raised by his paternal grandparents, Hampton and Mauler Washington.
In his era, he began working at an early age. He worked in cotton fields to earn money. Being a lover of sports, he used his own money to pay his way into high school basketball games. Otis was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Class of 1969. After graduation, Otis enlisted in the United States Army where he served four years.

Otis worked many different jobs including, logging, railroad, construction, Dan Cooks, and Miller Compressor. In his leisure time, Otis loved fishing, hunting, cleaning his cars, and keeping his yard clean.

Otis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Camden, AR. In 2007, he became a member of the New Foundation Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Thomas McElroy. There he served on the Deacon Board. In 2016, after moving back to Arkansas he joined Victory Way Church of God in Christ in Bearden, AR., where he became an Ordained Deacon. Later he joined Williams Temple Church of God in Christ in Sparkman, AR under the leadership of Elder Dennis Juniel, where he continued to serve as a faithful and dedicated server to God and his Pastor.

He passed from this life on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs. Otis was proceeded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Hampton Washington, Jr., grandparents, Hampton and Mauler Washington, three aunts, and two uncles.


Otis leaves to cherish his memories with his devoted wife, Claritha Washington; his children, Dimetrich (Dawn) Washington of Little Rock, AR, Tracey (Jason) Smalls or Ellenwood, GA, Otis (Satarah) Washington, Jr. of Little Rock, AR, Montra (Shianne) Starks of Rockford, IL, and Elethia Starks of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Broderick Neal of Los, Angeles, CA and Enrique (Gretchen) Washington of Portland, OR; five sisters, Stephanie Washington, Euna Washington and Erica Washington of Signal Hill, CA, Monica (Steve) Brock of Greenville, TX, and Christa Washington of Raleigh, NC; two aunts, Irene Bullock, and Emma Jean (Willie) Harris of Camden, AR; three uncles, Otis Walker of Rockford, IL, Carl Lee Henry of El Dorado, AR, and Jessie Henry of California; three sisters-in-law, Margie (Ashley) Paul of Inkster, MI, Dorothy (John) Mays of Bearden, AR, and Annie (Thomas) McElroy of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers-in-law, James Milton and Ricky Milton of Milwaukee, WI; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, June 3, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home Van Buren, 119 Van Buren Street in Camden, AR. Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Bearden with Elder Dennis Juniel, the eulogist. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Camden, Arkansas with Military Honors.
