Robert Wilton Whitaker

March 5, 1926 — January 28, 2019

Mr. Robert Wilton Whitaker was born March 5, 1926 in Dalark, Arkansas to George and Erie Lee Butler Whitaker. He was blessed with God fearing parents; who by example taught Christian values, integrity and ingenuity that resulted in a solid and caring family environment. His parents were highly respected among friends and neighbors in the Dalark Community. They taught him “a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”

He enjoyed working on the farm in his early years. He enlisted in the Navy and was a WWII Navy veteran. Robert was truly the life of the party. The fondest memories of him was towing, working, and always being available to lend a helping hand. He was a man of his on standard and did things “his way”. He loved his grandson Taylor; eating ice cream and drinking Dr. Pepper.

Robert passed on Monday, January 28, 2019 in Jonesboro surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Delamar; two brothers, Milton Whitaker and Valley Whitaker, a great-grandson, Kenyon Johnson and a son, Charles Whitaker.

He leaves three sons, Robert (Mattie) Whitaker, Jr., of Rockford, IL, Larry (Brenda) Williams of Hampton, VA, Timothy Amonette of Houston, TX, and Dennis Whitaker of Jonesboro, AR; five daughters, Juanita Whitaker-Baggett of Jonesboro, AR, Judy Whitaker of Conway, AR, Theresa Whitaker-Clayborn of Walnut Ridge, AR, Dora (Dennis) Whitaker-Rodgers of North Little Rock, AR, Robyn Lynn Whitaker of Memphis, TN, Patricia (Tom) Cladwell of Rockford, IL, Willie Mae (LeRoy) Matlock and Larry Bailey of Conway, AR; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Bowman of St. Louis, MO and Erma Jean Yarber of Kansas City, MO; and three brothers, George Whitaker (Patricia) of Sparkman, AR, Charles Whitaker (Geneva) of Sparkman, AR and Marvin Whitaker (Bessie) of Springhill, LA. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
