It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Lamar Reed, a cherished son, brother, father, and friend. Born on January 22, 1978, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Steven embraced life with a vibrant spirit and a deep love for the outdoors.
He was a 1997 graduate of Arkadelphia High and a talented athlete. He excelled in both football and track, leading his school to a state championship in 1997. He continued his studies at Ouachita Baptist University and pledged as a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Steven valued his connections with friends and family above all else. His laughter was like magic, drawing others to him and creating lasting relationships wherever he went. He epitomized the true spirit of camaraderie and loyalty.
“Smoke” was his nickname and his infectious energy and quick wit made him the life of the party and the joker in the family, always ready to bring a smile to those around him. He was a true character whether, his choice of clothes or his in-sync dance moves. He was a member of Eastern Star Baptist Church in the Smithton Community. He married Gwendolen Anderson and to this union two sons were born.
Steven's love for Braeden and Braxton, knew no bounds, and he took pride in raising them into fine young men. A dedicated electrician at Anthony Timberlands, he worked hard to acquire a beautiful home and land to one day leave as a legacy to his sons. Steven found solace in the simplicity of nature, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and tending to his John Deere tractor. Music was his muse, with a special love for country tunes that resonated with his soul.
He was a friend who didn’t see color, and he didn’t see status. His love was unconditional and will be missed. Steven surrendered after a valiant fight and passed from this life on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father Benny Edward Reed (September 15, 2002).
Steven leaves his sons, Braden L. Reed, Braxton M. Reed; his mother, Marie Reed; his brothers, Willie Reed of Little Rock, AR, Robert (Kassandra) Reed of Arkadelphia and Cortney Reed of Arkadelphia; sisters, Wenessa Reed (Freeman Jones), Maritta (Phillip) Wright, Myra (Ronnie) Bailey all of Arkadelphia, AR, Carolyn Reed of Little Rock, AR and Erica (Gary) Julien of Houston, TX. He also leaves his best friend and brother, Dennis Bost, a host of other relatives and friends.
As we bid farewell to a beloved soul who touched the hearts of so many, let us remember Smoke for his laughter, his love, and his unwavering commitment to those he held dear. May his legacy live on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Steven.
