Thurman Dixon, Jr.

July 4, 1949 — September 29, 2020

Thurman Dixon, Jr. was born to Thurman Dixon, Sr. and Gertie Mae Hill in Arkadelphia, Arkansas on July 4, 1949. He was the 6th of 7 children born of that union. Thurman graduated from peak high school in 1969. He also attended Arkansas AM&N, now known as UAPB where he excelled as a football player. In 1971, Thurman married his childhood sweetheart, Patsy Knox, on July 17, 1971.

Thurman was very friendly he never met a stranger, often making people laugh. He also had several names that he was referred; Dick Wolf, Wolf, Tom, Tricky Dick, Dad, Papa, and Big Guy.

Thurman was no stranger to hard work; he began his career with Brown and Root construction company as a concrete finisher. He later worked for Loomis for a number of years until he retired. Thurman grew up in a Christian home and accepted his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized and as an adult joined Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A. L. Kemp, where he served as an usher, Sunday school teacher, superintendent of summer school, and a deacon. He later moved his membership to Greater Saint Matthews Church under the leadership of Rev. Gusta Booker Jr., where he served on the Royal Touch Ministry, serving the Lord until he passed. He enjoyed watching football, driving his Corvette, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Having lived a fruitful and blessed life, Thurman’s destiny here on earth has been fulfilled. God called him home into His loving grace on September 29, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Dixon Sr. and Gertie Mae Dixon; siblings, Sammie Lee Dixon and Nettie Sue Brown, and son Jermaine Lavonne Dixon, and daughter Kenisha Shavonne Dixon.

Thurman leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Patsy Knox Dixon; his daughter Krystal Michelle Richards, grandchildren, Asia Shavonne Richards, Aniyah Michelle Richards, and Da’Mon Jamall Richards Jr., Siblings, Lady Barker, Arkadelphia Arkansas, Percy Lee Dixon (Delores), Missouri City Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Public visitation will be Friday, October 1, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm at Greater Saint Matthews Baptist Church, Southwest Campus, 14919 S. Main Street, Houston, Texas 77035. Graveside services will be held at 1pm on October 3, 2020 at Richmond Hill Cemetery in Arkadelphia. The family will lay Thurman to rest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Richmond Hill Cemetery. Services are provided by Gooden Funeral Home, 1716 Avenue E Rosenberg, Texas in conjunction with Williams Funeral Home.
