Thurman "Motor" Lea

April 15, 1959 — March 16, 2026

Carthage

Thurman Lea was born on April 15, 1959, to the late Lucille and Ferman Lea in the Lea Ridge community, at the Country Kitchen. Affectionately known as "Motor," Thurman spent his early childhood in the Lea Ridge community, where he was first introduced to and accepted Christ. He dedicated his life to his roots at Lea’s Ridge Baptist Church, where he remained a proud and lifelong member.

Thurman worked as a lumberjack, a profession he truly enjoyed. He found peace and purpose in the woods, embracing the outdoors not only through his work but also in his everyday life. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life, such as hunting, fishing, riding through the woods, and tending to his garden, often sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Known for his unforgettable laugh and playful forehead bites, Thurman made sure there was never a dull moment. He gave hugs by the truckload and had a deep love for his dogs. His warmth, humor, and genuine love for people will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Family was the heart of Thurman's life. He cherished family gatherings, good food, and the fellowship of loved ones. He loved spending time and making memories with his soulmate, Linda. He possessed a unique gift for making those around him feel cherished and valued, often uplifting the spirits of his family and friends. A man of strong faith, Thurman loved discussing the Lord and lived his life with a spirit that brought light and laughter to those around him.

On March 15, 2026, at the age of 66, Thurman bid farewell to this earth and made the transition to his heavenly home. He was reunited with his son, Kikendel Banks; his parents, Lucille and Ferman Lea; and his sister, Mattie Forte, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Thurman Lea; his soulmate, Linda Rideout; and his siblings: Louis Lea (Barbara), Ferman Lea, Sherman Lea (Tracey), Gary Johnson, Daisy Lea (James), Susie Edwards (Larry), Martha Lea, Brenda Jacobs (Grover), and Florence Lea Hymes. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law Trefner Rideout and Jefferson Preston; and sisters-in-law, Arlene Preston and Leishunda Rideout. Additionally, he is survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and countless loved ones who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Thurman lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of joy, faith, and family. He touched the lives of everyone he met and left a lasting impact on this world. Thurman will be missed, as his passing leaves a void that only he could fill. However, his legacy will endure, and his kind words and valuable lessons will always be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
